Kankakee,
Beaverville & Southern Railroad
Official
Site
The
Kankakee, Beaverville & Southern Railroad (KBSR) was formed in 1977
to operate a 25 mile segment of former New York Central trackage between
Sheldon and Kankakee, Illinois. As the larger connecting railroads continued
their efforts to downsize, KBSR continued to grow, reaching 155 miles
by 1995. The KBSR serves a predominately agricultural region of the
midwest. Its customer base consists of grain elevators and agri-chemical
distributors. KBSR interchanges with most major railroads -- CSXT, CN,
NS and UP and with regional carrier, TPW. With multiple interchanges
available, KBSR customers have the opportunity to reach a number of
different markets.
Daily
service is provided to KBSR customers on an as-needed basis. A fleet
of KBSR covered hoppers are available to customers who load into the
midwest processing markets, the southeast pork and poultry markets or
into the export market via the Gulf of Mexico.
Choice
industrial and distribution sites are available.
